Gov’t committed to boost agricultural sector – Samia
RUVUMA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has reaffirmed that the government is committed to make agriculture a leading contributor to the national economy.
Speaking on Thursday in Litola, Namtumbo District, Ruvuma Region, during the fourth day of her seven-day tour in the region, President Samia maintained that agriculture is a leading sector for rapid revenue generation.
She assured the public that the government will continue to support farmers through various subsidies, emphasizing that the efforts are aimed at boosting productivity.
“Currently, the government is offering fertilizer subsidies, and I have instructed the Minister to also provide seed subsidies. Seed prices will decrease because the government will cover half of the cost,” she said.
Additionally, President Samia cautioned against the practice of burning fields, which harms the environment and destroys protected forests.
