45° Kili Challenge set to scale new heights this July

KILIMANJARO: ADVENTURE seekers and mountain enthusiasts are gearing up for one of the most thrilling events on Tanzania’s outdoor calendar—the 45° Kili Challenge, scheduled to take place from July 24 to 31 this year.

Organised by Nyikani Nature Trails, the expedition offers participants a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, while embracing fitness, personal growth and the natural beauty of Tanzania.

The Chief and Founder of Nyikani Trails, Herieth Koka, confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ from Arusha yesterday that preparations for the event are in full swing.

“This is more than just a mountain climb. It’s about pushing limits, celebrating milestones and making a difference,” said Koka.

The challenge will be undertaken along three iconic routes—Machame, Rongai and Lemosho—which cater to various hiking experience levels.

However, Koka stressed that all climbers are expected to reach the summit simultaneously, fostering unity and collective achievement.

Initially aimed at individuals turning 45 this year, the campaign, titled 45° Kili Challenge (45 and Fearless), seeks to attract global participants looking to mark their milestone birthday with a transformative adventure.

“Our goal is to offer a unique experience that resonates with people’s desire for growth, achievement and adventure,” Koka explained.

Following input from stakeholders, the organisers have opened the challenge to participants of all ages.

The event also carries a deeper purpose to promote mental health awareness among schoolchildren and bolster Tanzania’s tourism sector as well.

“This is our inaugural challenge, and we intend to make it an annual event,” Koka added.

Registration is currently open, with organisers encouraging early sign-ups. Koka said that the participation fee is 1.8m/- for Tanzanian residents and East African citizens, while nonresidents and expatriates will pay USD 2,800. “This is not just a climb, it’s a mental, physical and spiritual transformation,” she emphasised.

“Turning 45 is a major life milestone. Climbing Kilimanjaro represents overcoming challenges and reaching new heights—both literally and symbolically.”

She noted that ahead of the climb, participants will also contribute to environmental conservation by planting trees in a designated area near the mountain base.
