344 residents in Kigoma accept compensation for SGR project

KIGOMA: A total of 344 residents of Mgeo Street in Buhanda Ward in Kigoma region have accepted compensation and signed forms verifying their property details affected by the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project.
The development follows a disclosure exercise attended by 346 residents out of 370 people whose properties were valued for the project.
Speaking today, October 2,2026, during the exercise, Senior Valuer from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr Rashid Mageta, said 344 residents accepted their compensation packages, while only two rejected the amounts allocated to them.
“344 residents have accepted the compensation and signed the forms verifying their details. Two did not accept the compensation, while 24 out of the 370 residents whose properties were valued have not yet come forward to verify their information,” Mr Mageta said.

He said the disclosure exercise is still ongoing to give the remaining 24 residents an opportunity to verify their property information, raise concerns and request corrections or clarification where necessary.
Mr Mageta emphasized that participation in the disclosure exercise is an important part of the valuation process, as it allows affected property owners to confirm the accuracy of information used in determining their compensation.
He urged the 24 residents who have not yet participated to come forward and verify their details before the valuation and compensation processes proceed to subsequent stages of the SGR project.
