SIX young football players from East Africa will travel to Madrid, Spain for trials after doing well in a recently held test.
The boys travel to Madrid in September this year.
Tanzania is among the three countries that will be represented in the trials and the country’s envoy is Razack Bashiri.
Bashiri was among the 28 youths who displayed remarkable skills during the East Africa Youth Soccer Tourney, the Chipkiz Cup 2022, held in Arusha last year.
The other five candidates come from Kenya and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe participated as a guest in last year’s Chipkiz Cup.
During the annual tourney, football agents from Spain, including the National Spanish League (La Liga) and Spanish Football Institute (FSI), attended the feat in Tanzania to scout for new talents from East Africa.
The Spanish scouts in Arusha included the FSI Director Pablo Verdejo, who attended Chipkizi Cup, intending to see the potential players to recruit.
Among the 28 players that were recruited to get the last six came from Azam FC, Fountain Gate of Dodoma, Eclat FC from DR Congo, Future Stars Academy of Arusha, Saint Soccer of Kenya, Amarigo of Uganda, and JKU of Zanzibar.
Others include Blessed Maposa, Mafios Chihweta, Charles Junior, Adrian Orig, and Chori Choul.
Alfred Itaeli, the Director of Future Stars Academy (FSA), organising the East African Youth football tourney, noted that many agents from various clubs, including Spain came to scout for potential young stars; however, many of the chosen candidates failed to make it to the final due to primarily financial constraints.
As for the agents, they admitted that they had had a good experience and that the Chipkizi Cup was an excellent platform to discover new talents, according to Daniel Hidalgo from Spanish Football Institute (SFI).
