Govt plans to execute mega water project as Aweso tables 756bn/- budget

Minister for Water Jumaa Aweso, Wednesday, tabled his docket’s 756.205bn/- budget for the next 2023/24 Financial Year which focuses on implementation of water projects.

Delivering his speech before MPs in Dodoma, Mr Aweso expressed the sixth phase Government’s commitment to continue implementing the strategic Kidunda dam project in Morogoro region which is expected to address chronic water shortage problem in Dar es Salaam City and the neighboring areas.

He added that the Ministry will start the construction of Farkwa Water Dam in Chemba District, improve water supply in Dodoma City and Bahi, Chemba and Chamwino towns.

Another good news in the budget is the completion of the construction, repair and expansion of ongoing projects including water supply projects in 28 towns in the country.

He said in the next FY, the Ministry plans to execute 244 water projects in urban areas and 1,546 water projects in rural areas.

Other Ministry’s top priorities are maintenance of water sources, identifying, setting demarcations and announcing in the Government Gazette for the water sources to be legally protected.

In exploring various water sources, the government also plans to tap water from reliable water sources including great lakes and rivers to the areas with shortage of water.

According to the new budget, the ministry plans to spend a total of 756,205bn of which 60,375bn/- are for Recurrent Expenditures and 407,064bn/-for Development Expenditures.
