Communicate Quran translation, Mwinyi tells Islamic institutions

ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has called upon Islamic institutions respon- sible for the recitation and teaching of the Quran to also focus on communicating its translation as a crucial aspect of knowing God’s directions and prohibitions.

Dr Mwinyi issued the call during the Greatest Holy Quran competition in Africa organised by Al-Hikma Foundation staged at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday.

“I urge fellow Muslims to regularly recite the Quran during and after Ramadhan while considering the teachings of God, so as to correctly perform their worship,” said Dr Mwinyi.

Commenting on the competition, President Mwinyi indicated that the competition has gathered 23 participants, where 20 were from the Africa and others from outside the continent.

According to him, the Holy Quran event organised by Al-Hikma Foundation was among the largest competitions to be hosted within the African continent.

Due to its popularity, he said the competition offers a vast opportunity to promote Tanzania globally, adding that the event was being followed by many through the various social media platforms.

President Mwinyi observed that since the start of the Ramadhan, he has attended another similar event, noting that he was moved with the turnout and enthusiasm among the attendees.

“This is very encouraging to see the efforts being done by our Sheikhs, instructors, participants and the institutions responsible for coordinating the entire process of the recitation of the Holy Quran,” noted President Mwinyi.

He disclosed that the efforts greatly contributed to obtaining the Sheikh and instructors who over- see the various issues relating to recitation of the Quran.

He applauded the par- ticipants, instructors and parents for preparing them to take part at the competition. He, however, called upon able people to grant their offerings to the needy including orphans, widows, and people with disabilities among others.

“It’s important to re- member and support those in need to comfort them and in turn benefit from the virtue of our offerings in this Holy month of Ramadhan.

As such, he called on more institutions to take part in supporting similar endeavors as a crucial as- pect of further promoting the country.

Earlier, the Chief Sheikh, Mufti Abubakar bin Zuberi maintained that the introduction of the competition has brought about huge changes as well as influenced a big number of youths to reciting the Quran.
