2024 UNAF U-17 WOMEN’S TOURNEY: Shime commended Serengeti Girls’

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Head Coach of Tanzania girls national football team, ‘Serengeti Girls,’ Bakari Shime, expressed his satisfaction and confidence in the team’s impressive performance in the Union of North Africa Football (UNAF) Girls competition held in Tunisia.

The head coach attributed the team’s success to a balanced strategy in attack and defence, emphasising that true strength lies in excelling at both aspects of the game.

“I am extremely pleased with our achievement,” said Shime. “Winning the championship was no small feat, especially considering the level of investment in women’s football by our opponents. Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia all have well-funded teams, but our girls managed to compete fiercely and emerge victorious.”

As guests in the tournament, the Serengeti Girls secured the championship by finishing atop the standings with seven points from three matches and a remarkable tally of nine goals.

The team clinched the title with a goalless draw against the tournament hosts, Tunisia, at Ariana Stadium on Saturday.

Player Sarah Maringo attributed the team’s success to their thorough preparation. “We were well-prepared for this competition, so we performed so well in our first two games and managed a draw in our final match. Remaining undefeated throughout the tournament was a significant accomplishment,” Maringo said.

Teammate Lydia Kabambo called for continued support from Tanzanians, highlighting its importance for the team’s future success.
