2024 Olympic heralds TOC meeting today

MEMBERS of the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) meet today in Morogoro with its main agenda being the country’s preparations for Olympic Games of Paris in 2024.

The committee’s Secretary General, Filbert Bayi revealed here yesterday insisting that the main agenda in today’s meeting is the preparation of Tanzanian athletes and teams for the global level games, saying the Olympic Games to be staged in Paris in 2024 are the top priority.

Explaining further on good preparations of the teams and athletes, Bayi said TOC has organised Special Championship in Dar es Salaam on December 16th and 17th this year to start selecting athletes who can be later polished further for the Olympic mission.

He named sports disciplines to be involved in testing sportsmen and women as athletics, boxing and judo.

He said, as well, TOC will soon release the qualifying time and criteria for the 33rd edition of Olympic Games.

“The qualifying time for runners, throwers and jumpers have been set,” he said.

He said after the end of the two-day special qualifying tournaments, the athletes with the best times will be camped and developed further for the Olympic mission.

Besides the launching Olympic campaign, during the TOC meeting, the committee’s assistant treasurer, Juma Zaidy will read the committee’s financial report and later the full report of Tanzanian participation in the Commonwealth Games of Birmingham, England.

Bayi said everything is in place and the members eligible to attend the meeting have already arrived in Morogoro for the AGM.

Meanwhile, the Annual General Meeting for Players Commission was conducted here yesterday and the meeting urged sports bodies to properly organise their national level competitions while also creating effective players’ commissions.

42 participants from various sports bodies attended the meeting.

The sports which were represented include judo, athletics, baseball, softball, Tanzania Cycling, Zanzibar cycling, hockey, triathlon, wrestling, handball, basketball, lawn tennis, badminton and Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF).
