145,000 for certificate, diploma programmes
DODOMA: THE National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) has announced selection of 145,575 applicants to join various certificate and diploma programmes for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Speaking in Dodoma yesterday, NACTVET Executive Secretary Dr Mwajuma Lingwanda said the council coordinated the admissions process from May 28 to October 28, 2025, covering programmes in health and allied sciences as well as non-health fields.
She said applications for health and allied sciences in Mainland Tanzania were submitted through the Central Admission System (CAS), while those in Zanzibar were submitted directly to institutions.
A total of 39,553 applicants—equivalent to 80 per cent—were selected.
Of these, 20,131 (51 per cent) were women and 19,422 (49 per cent) were men.
For non-health programmes, she said applications were submitted directly to institutions, which later forwarded names to NACTVET for verification.
Out of the 108,109 names received, 106,022 applicants— representing 98 per cent—met the required qualifications for their preferred programmes.
Dr Lingwanda noted several challenges during the admissions process, including some institutions selecting applicants who did not meet the required qualifications, particularly those that do not use the Central Admission System.

Another challenge involved colleges submitting applications on behalf of students without their consent, or using phone numbers that did not belong to the applicants.
To address these issues, she said NACTVET allowed applicants to rectify their choices and reapply for programmes that match their qualifications.
“This window remains open until November 30, 2025,” she stressed.
Dr Lingwanda added that the council is actively raising awareness among students on the importance of providing accurate information during applications.
She further directed all training institutions to register only those students officially selected by NACTVET and to ensure they report to campuses within the designated period—November 17 to December 12, 2025.
“No institution is allowed to admit students who were not selected, and no student should be registered if they fail to report physically,” she warned.
She said the NACTVET has also set up a special help desk to assist both students and institutions throughout the registration period.
