130 golfers on board as Nnauye graces Lugalo Open

THE Minister for of Information, Communication and Information Technology Nape Nnauye is set to grace this year’s NBC Lugalo Open Championship with over 130 golfers enrolled for a massive tee off this morning.

The annual national level competition jointly organised by Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and hosts Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club of Dar es Salaam, tees off today starting with professional golfers.

The amateurs and junior golfers will tee off tomorrow in the event that winds up on Sunday and after that Minister Nnauye will hand over trophies and other awards to winners, according to the club’s Chairman, Michael Luwongo.

Luwongo said preparation for three-day tournament has been finalised and the  course is in a good condition for a tee off.

“I want to thanks Minister Nnauye for agreeing to join his fellow golfers on that important day and as well our main sponsor NBC Bank and co-sponsors Pespi, Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (METL) and Serena Hotels for making it possible,” he said.

He said over 130 golfers from across the country have been registered for this year’s tournament.

In retrospect, Tanzania Golf Union’s handicap secretary Enock Magile has commended the club for the wonderful job to develop golf.

“Lugalo has been one of best courses when it comes to organizing tournaments and developing the game,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the main sponsor, NBC Bank, the Director of Retail Banking, Elibariki Masuke thanked the NBC Bank leadership and staff for the commitment and support.

He also thanked Lugalo Club under the leadership of Chairman Michael Luwongo for continuing to giving the bank that honour.

“We have also NBC Dodoma Marathon which, apart from giving heft prizes to the participants, also collects money to help in a fight against cervical cancer for women.”

Masuke said that for the third time in a row they are sponsoring golf tournament at Lugalo.

“Today we are offering 10m/-sponsorship for Lugalo Open tournament to increase the enthusiasm for this game. It is believed that this sponsorship will increase enthusiasm and competition to further promote this game nationally and internationally,” added Masuke.
