BUKOBA: FIVE persons appeared before the Kagera Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to answer various economic offences including evading paying taxes.
Senior State Attorney (SSA) Judith Mwakyusa who was assisted by Gloria Lugeye and Alex Giryago named the accused as Mwesiga Rupia, Nelius Kaizirege, Julieth Ishengoma, Herieth Deodatus and Mulokozi Egbert, all residents of Karagwe District.
She told the fully-packed courtroom that on diverse dates between December last year to March this year, the accused were found conducting business involving processing and distributing various intoxicants without valid licence.
Other offences facing them include causing a pecuniary loss amounting 10.6m/- to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), and failing to submit tax returns as required by the law.
Resident Magistrate Janneth Massesa adjourned the Economic Case No.7238/2025 to 2 April, this year.
The accused are out on bail. Meanwhile, eight persons have appeared before Kyerwa District Magistrate’s court to answer various economic charges, including unlawful possession of minerals.
Senior State Attorney (SSA) Raymond Kimbe who was assisted by State Attorney Alfred Tairo and Duke Mwanguku named the accused persons before Kyerwa Resident Magistrate Allen Ifunya as Diana Dickson, Dickson Shukuru, Deus Daudi, Benjamin Ernest, Alfred Joel and Brighton Sadiel.
Mr Kimbe told the court that on 12 February, this year along the Tanzania-Uganda border at Murongo village, the six accused persons were found in unlawful possession of 310 kilogrammes of TIN minerals worth 18m/-.

Other offences include leading an organised crime gang, conducting minerals business without a valid licence and causing a pecuniary loss of 1m/- to the Tanzania Minerals Commission (TMC).
The accused were not required to enter a plea because the Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP) has not granted permission while investigations were still ongoing.
Magistrate Ifunya adjourned the Economic Case No 6758/2025 until 31 March, this year and ordered the six accused persons to be remanded in custody.
Meanwhile, two other persons have appeared before Kyerwa District Magistrate’s court to answer various economic charges.
Senior State Attorney (SSA) Raymond Kimbe who was assisted by State Attorney Alfred Tairo and Duke Mwanguku named the accused persons before Kyerwa Resident Magistrate Flavian Kubingwa as Suzan Twaisige and Justus Chabona.
Mr Kimbe told the court that on 12 February, this year along the Tanzania-Uganda border at Murongo village, the two accused persons were found in unlawful possession of 119 kilogrammes of TIN minerals worth 5m/-.
Other offences include conducting minerals business without a valid licence and causing a pecuniary loss of 500,000/- to the Tanzania Minerals Commission (TMC).
The accused were not required to enter a plea because the Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP) has not granted permission while investigations were still ongoing.
Magistrate Kubingwa adjourned the Economic Case No 6767/2025 until 28 March, this year and ordered the two accused persons to be remanded in custody.
