129 Tanzanian prisons embrace clean cooking energy drive

MOSHI: PRIME Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, has today, represented President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan at the launch of the use of Clean Energy for Cooking in 129 prisons in the country.

The launch took place at Karanga prison located in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, on behalf of all prisons in across Tanzania.

Majaliwa said the move is commendable as it supports the vision of President Dr. Samia to ensure that the entire community uses this energy and thus largely eliminates the harms resulting from the use of unhygienic energy.

 

Speaking while reporting on the project to the Prime Minister, the Manager of the Agriculture, Livestock and Environmental Management Unit from the Prisons Force, SACP Daimu Mmolosha, said the force aims to ensure that there is more than one source of energy to avoid the use of firewood and charcoal.

So far, the renewable energy sources used in prisons are biogas, briquettes, natural gas, and electricity.
