Makini candidate to revamp agriculture

MTWARA: PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the Makini party, Mr Coaster Kibonde (pictured), has pledged to uplift the agricultural sector if elected President of Tanzania.
Addressing residents of Mikindani in Mtwara Region, he promised to raise the prices of cash crops such as cashew nuts, pigeon peas and sesame while ensuring farmers have access to reliable markets.
“We have reports that the market for pigeon peas and sesame has declined. Therefore, once the Chama cha Makini government is declared the winner, we will travel to various countries around the world to search for better and more profitable market for farmers,” said Mr Kibonde.
Agriculture features strongly in the Makini party manifesto. The party promises that every Tanzanian household will be supported through the allocation of one acre of land and a tractor to improve farming activities, household income and the national economy.
In addition, all youths aged 21 to 35 will be granted five hectares of titled farmland free of charge to boost farming and enable them to access loans from financial institutions.
He also pledged to establish fertiliser and farm input factories to ensure affordable access to agricultural inputs while creating employment opportunities for young people.
Turning to health, the party’s running mate, Ms Azza Haji Suleiman, said that health is the foundation of every aspect of life.
“Without health, no one can do anything. We are determined to address this issue carefully so that citizens can access health services with ease,” she said.
As part of its health commitments, the party promised to provide free maternal health services nationwide and to introduce a universal health insurance scheme for all Tanzanians.
