100 golfers on course for Galinoma Golf tour

IMMACULATE Lugalo course is all set as over 100 golfers tee off in the 4th edition of the Galinoma Memorial golf tournament today.
The 18-hole tournament will be graced by CCM’s Vice-Chairman (Mainland), Abdulrahman Kinana, who will also officiate the prize-giving ceremony after the end of the competition.
Apart from being a chief guest, Kinana will be among golfers who will tee off today.
Organised by the Galinoma family in collaboration with the Lugalo Club, the tournament commemorates the golf career of the former Lugalo Golf Club chairman the late Brigadier General (rtd) Ernest Galinoma.
Also served as a senior golfer, Galinoma died at Muhimbili Referral Hospital in the city on April 17th , 2016 and was laid to rest at Kalenga Village in Iringa.
The tournament’s coordinator, Alex Galinoma, told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ that preparation has been finalised and everything is in place for the tournament to tee off as scheduled.
The tournament will engage, amateur golfers, professionals and caddies as professional golfers did their tee yesterday.
He said they are grateful to see good response from golfers.
“On behalf of the family, I want to thank all golfers for responding well to the tournament’s invitation. Over 100 golfers is a massive turn out,” he said.
He, however said they will conduct golf clinics for those who never tested golf.
He said since the late Galinoma liked the game, they have organised the event for his memory and as well to promote the game, especially for the girls and juniors.
It has been six years since Galinoma passed away, but the family has been organising his memorial event for the fourth year now.
During his life, Galinoma was also a good supporter of ladies’ golf as he helped the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) to organise the first-ever international golf tournament christened, the East and Central Africa Ladies Challenge Trophy at Lugalo course in 2011 and he was the founder of the junior programme at the club.
