1.5bn/- to improve Chato sewage services
THE government has budgeted 1.59bn/- for implementation of a project for collection, transportation and treatment of wastewater in Chato Town Council to improve the environment and sanitation services in Geita Region.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Engineer Cyprian Luhemeja revealed that early this week, during his official visit to the project located at Nyangomango Village of Chato District.
He said that during the project implementation, the contractor is recommended to buy two waste water trucks to provide wastewater collections services to private and public areas.
“Let’s urge the contractor, by November (2023) the wastewater tracks must be here, because one of the biggest obstacles is that Chato has absolutely no vehicles to collect sewage.
“The trucks which collect about 10,000 to 18,000 litres of waste water and then after they dump waste water in the open environment, now the cost is very high and unacceptable.”
He directed the contractors to complete the project by April 2024 to provide an opportunity to the Chato District council, especially the urban areas, to be sure of proper waste management and disposal.
The Project Manager from the Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), Engineer Isaack Mgeni said the project is estimated to take 18 months, starting on June 22, 2023 and will be completed on September 12, 2024.
“Until now, the contractor has dug all the open area and on average the project is 25 percent, so he is still in the process of laying the subfloor.”
He said that the dump is set to receive four million litres of waste water while Chato town produces about 4.7 million litres of wastewater daily. He pledged to oversee the execution of the plan to ensure timely completion as directed by the PS.
The Project Manager Engineer of Penitus Exim Private Limited, Tarun Thankur pledged to implement the government directives by completing the project within the given timeframe.
