1.5bn/- allocated for improving ADEM infrastructures

THE government has allocated a sum of 1.5bn/- in 2022/ 2023 financial year for execution of various development projects under the Agency for Development of Educational Management (ADEM) in its Mbeya and Bagamoyo campuses.

This was unveiled recently by Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda during the 30th graduation of ADEM’s Bagamoyo Campus.

He said the government has paid due attention on development of infrastructure and various facilities at ADEM with all its campuses, a move that aims at improving work performance, supervision and assurance of education quality.

According to him, 500m/- of the budget will be spent on construction of a building that will have four lecture halls with a capacity to host a total of 564 students. The money will also be spent on constructing 10 offices at Mbeya Campus.

“The remaining 1bn/-  is for renovation  of four offices, three lecture halls and three staff houses for Bagamoyo campus,” he said, adding that   the government is also  looking forward to starting  construction of the ADEM campus in Mwanza region.

The minister noted that, the completion of construction activities and the planned improvement will expand the scope for teachers, education supervisors and other education stakeholders to get the training in a more safe and quality environment.

ADEM Chief Executive, Dr Siston Masanja, said the agency has received a permit to employ 57 new staff who will help to reduce workload and improve efficiency in the institution’s day to day activities.

“Right now, the recruitment secretariat is in the process of scrutinising the applicants and interviewing all who have met the criteria before being selected for the job,” he said, thanking the government for its continued support to the agency.

For the financial year 2022/2023 to 2025, the agency is intending to conduct training on leadership, supervision and education management to 17,000 heads of school in all regions of the Mainland.

“The agency is also planning to conduct training on Good Education Leadership to Education Supervisors at regional and district levels,” he said.

He pointed out that groups which will be involved under this programme include regional, district and ward education officers, district commissioners, regional commissioners and district executive officers.

In their speech, the graduates thanked the Government for its efforts in improving the studying environment and ensuring that courses which are offered at the campuses are of good quality.

A total of 869 candidates graduated from Diploma in Education Management and Administration (DELMA), Certificate in Education Leadership Management and Administration (CELMA) and Diploma in School Quality Assurance (DSQA).
