Z’bar House Members pledge full support to Mwinyi’s development agenda

ZANZIBAR: MEMBERS of the Zanzibar House of Representatives have pledged to fully support President Hussein Mwinyi in executing his duties without obstacles to ensure his vision of bringing development to all Zanzibaris is achieved.
The legislators made the pledge shortly after President Mwinyi inaugurated the 11th House of Representatives.
They said President Mwinyi’s speech touched on all key areas of development and outlined a clear roadmap for his second term in office, adding that they had a responsibility to cooperate with him in implementing various development plans as presented in the House.
A nominated member of the House, Mr Idrissa Kitwana Mustafa said President Mwinyi’s address serves as a guiding vision for Zanzibar, as it focuses on addressing the real challenges facing the people.
He noted that the speech demonstrated a sincere commitment to bring development to all citizens without discrimination, urging all members to support the efforts.
“For us, that speech should serve as a compass. The issues President Mwinyi raised are practical and achievable. Looking back at his first term, he was able to fulfill his promises quickly and effectively,” he said.
A Representative for Kijini Constituency, Ms Badria Attai Masoud said the President’s address offered great hope for the people of Zanzibar as it clearly outlined the isle’s development direction for the next five years.
She said the speech identified about 15 priority areas covering key sectors such as youth employment, economic empowerment, special groups, sports, education, infrastructure, tourism and other vital social services.

“It is a visionary and inspiring speech. As leaders entrusted by the people, we pledge to work closely with President Mwinyi to implement his development plans and aspirations,” she said.
On her part, a Representative (Youth -academic group), Ms Khadija Salum Ali said the speech brought comfort and optimism to all Zanzibaris and Tanzanians at large because it addressed every social group.
She added that the priorities outlined by the President were inclusive and took into account the needs of women, youth, entrepreneurs, children, the elderly, traders and ordinary citizens.
“President Mwinyi’s speech embraced everyone. As representatives, we will stand shoulder to shoulder to ensure that all his promises are fulfilled for the benefit of the people,” she explained.
A Representative for Donge Constituency, Dr Khalid Salum Mohammed said President Mwinyi’s second term places strong emphasis on maintaining peace and stability while strengthening vital sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives.
He said the priority areas include road infrastructure, port improvements, social services, education, health, water, as well as maintaining the Union and the Zanzibar Revolution.
“The President left nothing out. He covered every essential sector for the people’s welfare. It’s a hopeful and visionary speech for a new Zanzibar and we must all work together to make it a reality,” he said.
Mr Taufik Salim Turky, another nominated member, applauded the 15 key priorities outlined by President Mwinyi, particularly youth employment and promised to cooperate in ensuring the goals are achieved.
He noted that one of the key challenges remains the limited public awareness of economic empowerment rights.
He pledged to intensify efforts to disseminate information, particularly to youth and women in both Unguja and Pemba to ensure they can effectively access available opportunities.
For his part, Magomeni Representative Mahfoudh Abdalla Mohammed described President Mwinyi’s address as brief but impactful, saying it outlined a range of development initiatives capable of accelerating Zanzibar’s economic growth.
“This is a great blessing for Zanzibar. Those who understand President Mwinyi’s capability and his commitment to advancing development know that everything he has promised is achievable,” he said.
They all pledged to continue supporting President Mwinyi and urged citizens to uphold peace and stability for the country’s sustainable growth.
The lawmakers said the President’s speech clearly reflected his commitment to ensuring that Zanzibar continues to enjoy peace, unity, and sustainable development for the benefit of present and future generations.
