Z’bar e-Gaz, Tigo-Zantel launch Shared Government Enterprise Services
ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar e-Government Authority (eGaz) and the Tigo-Zantel mobile company have established corporation- ‘Shared Government Enterprise Services’ (SGES) aimed to improve services in the country.
During a launching ceremony held here, it was said that the SGES will enhance e-government performance by providing various digital services such as bulk SMS, USSD services, interactive SMS platforms and Data Centre.
“The main objective of the collaboration through SGES is to simplify communication, improve service delivery, and increase public participation in government institutions,” the e-Gaz Executive Director, Mr Said Seif Said explained.
He said that the SGES is an important part of Zanzibar’s ‘Digital Economy Plan and e- Government Strategy 2023-2027,’ which aims to build common and effective systems for achieving the goals of digital transformation in government.
Mr Said explained that SGES project will help to fast-track digitalization in the Government as it provides a secure platform to monitor and maintain government information while enabling the provision of ICT services in a managed manner.”

He pointed out: “By harmonizing service delivery in government institutions, we expect to save up to 50m/- per day. This collaboration with Tigo-Zantel is an important step in reforming government services and building an open and efficient digital economy in Zanzibar.”
Mr Said explained further that the SGES is in line with the priorities of the 8th phase government of Zanzibar under President Hussein Mwinyi.
He said that integration of the new system with key departments such as Immigration and other government agencies follows immediately, as he promised that the National Data Centre and the Network Operations Centre expected to start operating within the next four to six months.
Mr Aziz Said Ali, the Regional Director of Tigo-Zantel, Zanzibar, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the digital transformation of the Zanzibar government, “Tigo-Zantel is proud to be a major partner in this revolutionary project.
“The SGES system will strengthen the government’s digital infrastructure and ensure that services are provided more efficiently, transparently and easily accessible, thus contributing to building a strong digital Zanzibar,” he noted.
He expressed that the collaboration that involves Zanzibar’s e-Gaz, Tigo-Zantel, and NTT DATA, demonstrates commitment in achieving national development goals through technological innovation.
