Zanzibar to foster closer ties with India

Zanzibar: THE Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has underscored the importance of strengthening ties with India to unlock new opportunities and build a shared future for both nations.

Speaking during the 19th Confederation of Indian Industry- India Africa Business Conclave held in New Delhi recently, Zanzibar’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Omar Said Shaaban, emphasised the significance of leveraging the potential of both India and Africa to foster economic cooperation.

The minister in his speech highlighted numerous investment opportunities available in Zanzibar and Tanzania, assuring Indian investors of Zanzibar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, according to a press statement from the ministry.

The three-day conclave, attended by over 789 delegates from 46 African countries, served as a platform to discuss collaborative efforts between India and Africa.

The theme of the conclave, ‘Creating One Future,’ emphasised the shared aspirations of both regions to transform economies, uplift their people and build a sustainable future.

“Today, as we convene here in New Delhi, we are united in our aspirations to transform our economies, uplift our people and build a sustainable future for the generations to come,” said Shaaban.

Zanzibar, being strategically located, offers ample investment opportunities in sectors like tourism, agriculture, blue economy and renewable energy.

The minister highlighted the island’s commitment to sustainable development and its interest in collaborating with Indian partners to empower the youth and foster economic growth.

Mr Shaaban expressed confidence that the conclave would pave the way for identifying actionable strategies to strengthen the partnership between India and Africa.
