ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR recorded a 15.0 per cent rise in arrivals of foreign tourists last month, Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS) and Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) said in a joint statement.
A statistician from ZCT Mr Hassan Ameir Vuai said at a press conference that the number of foreign tourists who visited Zanzibar in October, this year was 69,860 an increase of 27.1 per cent compared to 54,961 visitors recorded in October 2023.
Mr Vuai said: “European tourists dominated the market by accounting for 70.5 per cent of the total visitors in October 2024. French national dominated the tourism market, accounting for 14.4 per cent of all visitors who entered the Isles in October 2024, followed by Germany (12.0 per cent) while New Zealand recorded less than one per cent (0.3 per cent), the least.” He said that the number of visitors from emerging markets including Poland, India, Russia, Israel, China and Ukraine in October 2024, increased by 4.8 per cent compared to the number of visitors recorded in October 2023.

“Data show that a higher percentage of visitors (20.7 per cent) stayed in the country for seven days in October 2024, and that the visitors’ average intended length of stay during the month was eight (8) days.
The data shows also indicates that in October 2024, a total of 59,443 visitors, equivalent to 85.1 per cent of the total visitors, entered Zanzibar through the Airport while 50,509 visitors entered by international flights and 8,934 by domestic flights. The remaining 10,417 visitors entered through the seaport, of whom 112 entered by cruise ship and 10,305 by sea ferry from Tanzania Mainland.
Minister for Tourism and Heritage Mr Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga has repeatedly urged people to maintain peace and stability and avoid criminal acts so that more tourists from abroad can choose Zanzibar, a move which, is important for economic growth.
