Equally, he urged participants to engage in dialogue that includes all key players—government leaders, public sector representatives, and individuals—to discuss effective strategies and future business plans in Zanzibar.

“The government continues to enhance the business environment by reviewing taxes, implementing policy reforms and improving infrastructure to reduce or eliminate challenges that impede business operations in the isles,” he stated.

He highlighted the recent establishment of a cargo port at Fumba and a dry port at Maruhubi as significant steps taken by the government to improve the business climate in Zanzibar.

On the note, Dr Mwinyi instructed government officials to take immediate action to address the problems raised by the business community.

Additionally, he encouraged stakeholders in the business sector to actively participate in such forums to delve into issues and foster a fair competitive environment, as they play a crucial role in the country’s economic growth. Dr Mwinyi reassured the business community and stakeholders that the government is dedicated to addressing their challenges and improving the overall business environment.

Earlier, ZNBC members expressed concerns about bureaucracy in immigration permits, non-tariff barriers and slow decision-making processes.

Minister of Trade and Industrial Development Omar Said Shaaban praised President Mwinyi for his personal commitment to overcoming business obstacles, which has invigorated the ZNBC to take action. He noted that the President had issued numerous directives to ensure the implementation of resolutions reached during the Business Council meetings.

Mr Shaaban assured participants that his ministry will continue to coordinate forums that engage both private and public institutions to develop policies, laws and regulations that enhance the business environment.

Elibarik Shammy, Country Director for Trade Mark Africa and a key speaker at the forum, commended the government for its consistent involvement of the private sector in dialogues aimed at improving the business environment and creating investment opportunities.

He emphasised that Trade Mark Africa is currently focused on promoting the sale of products processed in Africa, aiming to shift the market mindset from selling only raw materials.
