Youth urged to embrace local artistry to safeguard Tanzanian heritage

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIANS have been urged to embrace local artistry as a way of preserving the nation’s culture and values, while also shielding society from excessive foreign content that often contributes to the erosion of traditions.

Supporting local productions, experts say, will not only safeguard Tanzanian heritage but also strengthen the country’s creative industry, which continues to gain recognition abroad, particularly across East Africa.

This call was made by Yahya Mohamed of Azam Media during the launch of a new drama series titled Noma, set to air every weekend on Azam TV’s Sinema Zetu channel.

“At Azam Media, we remain committed to providing platforms for different creatives to showcase their work. Right now, our dramas are gaining popularity across East Africa, and through this entertainment, even our neighbors are beginning to learn and appreciate Kiswahili,” Mohamed said.

He went on to stress that the arts are not only a significant source of employment for Tanzanians but also a powerful cultural voice:

“Art is a voice for Tanzanians. We must love it, amplify it, and share our unique identity with the world. Through art, people can truly understand us because it acts as a bridge to the global stage. As an institution, we will continue investing to ensure our films and productions reach even greater heights,” Mohamed added.
