Young Africans in crucial CAF duel

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans will lock horns with Algerian side CR Belouizdad today in the CAF Champions League action at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

It is a tricky home assignment for the host and only a win or a draw will keep the Tanzanian envoys on the right track of qualifying into the next stage of the competition which is the quarterfinals.

The two teams are tied with 5 points in group D, behind leaders who are also the defending champions Al Ahly who have already banked 6 points and at the bottom are Ghanaian side Medeama SC with 4 points.

The Jangwani-based Yanga will play today’s match with the memory of losing against their opponents in their group opening match at the 5 July 1962 Stadium in Algeria.

The two coaches expressed their views ahead of the match as each one was optimistic that they would have a crucial win.

Young Africans Head Coach Miguel Gamondi stipulated that today’s match is very important to them, insisting that a win will keep them in a good position.

“We understand today’s match will be tough, but a win will be so important to us, and we are well prepared to face them,” he said.

However, Gamondi said his players are psychologically and physically stable despite having a short time to prepare for the game.

“We had a short time to prepare ourselves, a few days back we had an Azam Sports Federation Cup (AFC) match, but my players are ready to give their best performance for Yanga fans and try to win the game in the best way possible,’’ he explained.

He added that following their defeat, the team have worked out their shortcomings. He said the game plan will involve cautious defending and attacking.

On his part, CR Belouizdad Head Coach Marcos Paqueta said they were ready to face their opponent understanding that it will be a tough match but they aim to win the game.

“We are going to play against a tough team, we are well prepared for the challenge, I hope our players will do well as they did in our previous meet-up,” he said.

However, Coach Marcus said Young Africans have qualified players and good coach so his players and the whole technical bench is aware of their big task ahead.

“We will play a strategic game as our target is only to qualify for the next stage,” he explained.

On his side, Sofiane Bouchar, CR Belouizdad Central Defender said they are well prepared to face Yanga, and hope they will go home with good results.

Young African Skipper Dickson Job urged their fans to show up in numbers, as they aim to grab three crucial points in today’s match.
