DAR ES SALAAM: Young African Sports Club in collaboration with the GSM Foundation has donated a total of 200m/- for the construction of a newly elderly care center administered by Petra Elderly Center Foundation.
Chairperson of GSM Foundation, Faith Gugu revealed this in Dar es Salaam on Thursday saying apart from the amount contributed, the organisation has also disbursed a total of 100 tonnes of cement for the project.
The foundation that was established by the Minister of Defense and National Service, Dr Stergomena Tax in October this year is expected to serve 50 elderly individuals, with a total of 1,300 beneficiaries from Dar es Salaam and the Coast regions.
On his part, the President of Young Africans SC, Engineer Hersi Said noted that the club is committed to supporting the efforts done by private sectors in the country in addressing societal issues especially the needs of elders.
“We believe this center will have a great impact in the lives of our elders so I would like to urge citizens to rally behind these kinds of initiatives that touch people’s lives,” Eng Hersi said.
For his side, the Manager of the center, Mussa Juma thanked Yanga and GSM for their support noting that the center is dedicated to preserving the dignity of elders while offering an opportunity for youth tap from their wisdom.
He further said that their plan is to extend the programme to other regions including Mwanza, Arusha, and Zanzibar.
