Yanga focus on CR Belouizdad after ASFC success

DAR ES SALAAM: AFTER squeezing into the fourth round of the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC), Young Africans skipper Bakari Mwamnyeto said their focus now is on the CAF Champions League games.
The ASFC title holders on Tuesday night claimed a comfortable 5-0 victory over Polisi Tanzania at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam to progress further into the competition.
Joseph Guede scored a brace for the hosts before contributions by Farid Musa, Clement Mzize, and Shekhan Khamis who completed the night feast with a spectacular late spot-kick strike.
“We are happy to make it to the next round of the ASFC and now, we turn our focus on Saturday’s Champions League match against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad. “It will be a tough game but we are going to prepare well because our target is to win the game to be in a better chance to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition,” Mwamnyeto said.
On his part, Polisi Tanzania captain, Denis Mushi conceded defeat, saying they played against a big team with quality players and enough experience.
“Our team is composed of many young players who were playing in the ASFC for the first time so it was not easy to compete against the experienced players of the defending champions. “We have learned a lesson which I believe will help us to mature, let me congratulate Yanga for making it into the next round of the competition,” Mushi said.
In other ASFC games held on Tuesday, Kagera Sugar defeated Pamba Jijij 1-0 at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera while Rhino Rangers ousted Mbao FC 5-1 goals at Rhino Stadium in Arusha.
In an earlier match of the day at the Azam Complex, KMC thrashed Gunners FC 4-0 whereas Mashujaa FC eliminated Mkwajuni FC 2-1 as the former stepped into the last 16.
