Yanga edge past KenGold

MBEYA: A TOWERING header from Young Africans centre-back Ibrahim Bacca in the 13th minute secured his side a narrow 1-0 victory over KenGold at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya yesterday in the ongoing Mainland Premier League.

This win marks Yanga’s second triumph of the ongoing league campaign, bringing their points total to six from two matches.

In contrast, KenGold suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, struggling to adapt to the demands of the top-flight league.

Just two minutes into the match, KenGold goalkeeper Castor Mhagama made two crucial saves, preventing the visitors from taking an early lead.

However, in the 13th minute, Bacca connected powerfully with a well delivered set-piece from Stephanie Aziz Ki, propelling Yanga ahead.

The goal ignited a series of attacks from Miguel Gamondi’s side, who sought to extend their lead.

Despite their efforts, KenGold’s defense held firm, repelling further threats.

A thunderous strike from Clement Mzize in the 41st minute was expertly saved by Mhagama, marking Yanga’s last attempt of the first half.

After the break, Yanga continued to dominate.

Their best chance came in the 59th minute, when Maxi Nzengeli’s shot was punched to safety by Mhagama.

KenGold nearly equalised in the 84th minute, but Helbert Lukindo’s close-range header narrowly missed the target, keeping the scoreline intact.

In the closing minutes, substitute Pacome Zouzoua had a chance to increase Yanga’s lead after a quick transition, but he was denied by the KenGold goalkeeper.

In an earlier match at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam, hosts JKT Tanzania secured a comfortable 2-1 victory over Coastal Union.

Hassan Dilunga opened the scoring for JKT with a penalty in the 14th minute, making him the first player from the club to score this season.

Coastal Union equalised in the 27th minute through John Makwata, but Shiza Ramadhani restored JKT’s lead in the 48th minute, sealing their first victory of the campaign.

This marks Coastal Union’s fourth defeat, as they continue to struggle in the league.
