WOSA tours East Africa in 3rd edition

SOUTH AFRICA: DATING back to 1659 when the first bottle of wine was made in South Africa by founder and Governor Jan van Riebeeck, the Wines of South Africa is hosting its third edition of East Africa Tour with the vision of promoting the region as premium wine producer region in the world.

Scheduled yesterday and today in Dar es Salaam, the wine marketing body of the South African Wine Industry has wings in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in the Africa region.

Within Tanzania several Wine importers representing South African producers will showcase Red and White, Mohans Oysterbay, The Wine and Cheese Shop, BEVCO and Upper Zonal Trading Company.

While in Tanzania, over these two days, South African wine producers will be focus on trade and media professionals wine professionals drawn from wine importers, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and hotels. Yesterday 8th was the Discovery of Wine Course where participants learnt about the wine regions, the grape varieties, wine making and wine personalities.

Today will showcase South African wine brands namely Ken Forrester Wines, Holden Manz WInes, Kumala Wines, Kleine Zalze wines, Lavenir Wines, LeBonheur WInes, Cheese producer Sirimon Cheese among others.

Making the revelation, Market Manager Africa Matome Mbatha said the country is proud to be actively involved in the East African market growth in volumes and value even for premium wine categories.

Adding: “Beyond exports, we focus on up-skilling wine professionals in the markets we operate by offering courses. This ensures wine is served and consumed correctly enhancing the experience for the consumer.” The past two events have had 120 participants in the wine course and 150 guests at the wine showcase and we hope this numbers to increase over time.

One of the Bartenders, Baraka Shayo attending the training last year said: “I realised I had been making many mistakes. I now know how to serve my clients better. With my wine knowledge increasing, I look forward to becoming the top wine expert in Tanzania.”
