World Press Freedom Index 2024 Report ranks Tanzania high

DODOMA: The World Press Freedom Index 2024 has mentioned Tanzania as the leading country in East Africa that respect the freedom of media.
The Minister for Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye, made the announcement in Parliament in Dodoma on Thursday.
He stated that Tanzania’s position as the leading country is not by mistake but is because of various efforts made by the government in reforming media service legal frameworks,” he told lawmakers.
According to the minister, the World Press Freedom Index also placed Tanzania in the 97th position globally this year.
Last year, the country was ranked 143rd globally.
“The government continues to ensure that the media in the country are free to receive and issue reports on various events that arise,” Mr. Nnauye said.
The World Press Freedom Index 2024, established by Reporters Without Borders, provides analysis on the freedom of the press in various countries globally.
