Women MPs honour Samia on clean energy drive
DODOMA: WOMEN MPs in collaboration with the Oryx Gas Tanzania Limited (OGTL) have honoured President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan in recognition of her contribution towards advocating for clean energy use.
The award to the President Samia has been presented today in Dodoma during the celebrations to mark the World LPG Day.
The Day is marked on every 7th June to raise awareness of the benefits of LPG worldwide.
The MPs used the commemorations to discuss contribution of President Samia to encourage the use of clean energy in Africa, particularly Tanzania.
Officiating the event, National Assembly Speaker Dr Tulia ackson said President Samia deserves being honoured because she has been a champion in advocating for clean cooking energy.
“Her efforts are seen by Tanzanians, the whole african continent and the world at large,” Dr Ackson stated.
She said the Africa faces challenge of widespread use of bad cooking energy whereby 80 per cent of Africans use unclean energy for cooking.
“President Samia helps to look for opportunities that would make people get rid of using bad energy,” she noted.
On his part, OGTL’s Managing Director Benoit Araman said the award to the President Samia was part of supporting her efforts for advocating for clean energy use.
Mr Araman said the company has so far donated 35000 gas cylinders and stoves to different social groups in the country.
He added that the initiative is ongoing, and it is aimed to support President’s mission to attain 80 per cent of Tanzanians using clean energy by the year 2032.
