With ‘DigiTruck’ in mind, Tanzania digital realm is bright

DAR ES SALAAM: IF you are not aware, digital globalization enables multinational enterprises in the private sector and governments in many developing and industrialised economies to quickly gain access to global open resources, seamlessly work with global suppliers, extensively connect to worldwide customers, and virtually nourish internal communication and knowledge sharing for a global workforce.

Or put in another way, it enhances global connectivity-here people can connect and communicate with others worldwide in real-time, breaking down geographical barriers. It also enables access to information-The vast amount of information available online provides quick access to knowledge on virtually any topic.

With this in mind, the government of Tanzania under the leadership of President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has been commended for its vision of fostering innovation, inclusion and sustainable development through digital technologies.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, over the weekend during the Huawei and Vodacom Tanzania launching ceremony of ‘DigiTruck’ graced by Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Dotto Biteko, the Huawei Managing Director Damon Zhang hailed the President for quickening the country’s progress towards the Digital Transformation Agenda 2030.

He noted that her approach was that no Tanzanian was left behind in the digital world, adding: “Today, we’re heading to the ‘tranquil villages’ as a good start, nevertheless, with the consistent vision and solid support from the government of Tanzania, I firmly believe that it is just the beginning of a brighter future ahead.”

He expressed his respect to President Samia for her appeal to all Chinese Enterprises in Tanzania to ‘give back to the society’ and contribute to the well-being of people in Tanzania.

“Thanks to your kind guidance and expectations, we’re able to better practice our slogan ‘In Tanzania, For Tanzania’ and grow together with Tanzania communities harmoniously,” he pointed out.

He clarified that developing the digital economy is Tanzania’s national strategy, whereby the digital skill of the next generation is the foundation excited to extend the cooperation between the two companies from the business level so as to fulfill corporate social responsibility jointly.

He said with the joint effort, the mobile classroom will travel across the country in two years and bring digital skills to underserved communities regardless of their physical location.

“We are glad to go beyond connectivity with you and your organization”, he added.

He said Huawei has been a dedicated partner to Tanzania for 18 years and they are proud to have supported the swift advancement of Tanzania’s ICT sector wishing to re-affirm their unwavering commitment to assisting Tanzania in achieving its National Development Vision 2025 and the upcoming 2050 National Development Vision, providing a solid foundation for the country’s future.

On her part. Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian said China and Tanzania share a longstanding tradition of friendship, whereas this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“President Xi Jinping and President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan exchanged congratulatory messages to celebrate the 60th anniversary and this should be taken into account,” she pointed out.

She further noted that President Xi Jinping apart from expressing his willingness to work with President Samia, stressed the traditional friendship between China and Tanzania to continue the traditional friendship, enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, and make greater contributions to building of a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

Earlier during her official visit to China, President Samia participated in the signing of a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the digital economy, marking a milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The MoU was aimed at enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including technology, telecommunications, and e-commerce, providing a framework for future investments and joint initiatives.

The agreement is expected to bolster Tanzania’s digital infrastructure, fostering innovation and creating new opportunities for economic growth.

President Samia highlighted the importance of this partnership, emphasizing that it aligns with Tanzania’s vision of becoming a digital economy hub in the region.

Chinese officials expressed their commitment to supporting Tanzania’s digital transformation, noting that the collaboration would benefit both countries by enhancing trade and development opportunities.

This MoU is one of several agreements signed during President Samia’s visit, reflecting the deepening ties between China and Tanzania in various sectors, including infrastructure, trade, and investment.
