Wingu Africa launches WCX platformm for Tanzania’s growing digital economy.

DAR ES SALAAM: WINGU Africa has officially launched new Data Center services through its Wingu Cloud Exchange (WCX) platform, a modern private cloud system hosted locally and designed for the wider East African region.
The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Tanzania’s growing digital economy.
Speaking during the launch in Dar es Salaam, Wingu Africa Director Huneid Ali said WCX offers a secure and affordable alternative to offshore cloud services, while ensuring safety and efficiency in handling business and institutional data.
“The benefits of WCX include enhanced security, compliance with regulatory requirements, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use when compared to international cloud services. With local currency pricing, quick system deployment, and instant scalability, the platform helps businesses adopt digital technologies without unpredictable costs,” Ali said.
Wingu Africa’s Data Center Manager, Bilali Tofika, noted that Tanzania is the first country to deploy the WCX platform, with plans to expand to other Wingu markets, including Ethiopia and Djibouti.
“WCX includes Wingu Compute, Wingu Kubernetes, Wingu Drive, and Wingu Security—services that enable organisations to deploy and manage applications while ensuring their data remains within East African borders,” Tofika explained.

Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Wingu Africa, Nicholas Lodge, added that the platform integrates seamlessly with existing on-premise systems and complements global services such as Azure and AWS.
“Wingu Cloud Exchange was developed directly in response to customer demand for a practical, dependable, and locally delivered cloud platform. WCX simplifies cloud adoption with predictable costs, compliance, and scalability aligned with how organisations in the region operate,” said Lodge.
Meanwhile, Erkan Satik, Wingu Africa’s Director of Cloud Ecosystem & Alliances, described the launch as a significant milestone in the region’s digital transformation.
“WCX is simple to use, quick to deploy, and designed to give customers real flexibility. They can run applications locally for improved performance, integrate with global clouds when needed, and scale instantly,” Satik said.
Wingu Africa has invested heavily in local cloud infrastructure as part of its commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable digital growth. According to the company, secure and standards-compliant infrastructure is key to enabling African businesses to embrace advanced technologies with confidence.
Since its establishment in 2012, Wingu Africa has been East Africa’s first carrier-neutral data centre operator, with facilities in Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. The company continues to connect African enterprises to global digital networks through secure, scalable, and high-performance colocation services.
Wingu Africa maintains that its mission is to remain a leader in providing world-class digital infrastructure tailored to the unique needs of the East African digital landscape.
