KAGERA: HOME Affairs Minister Innocent Bashungwa has appealed to Tanzanians to maintain the prevailing peace at all costs and should not allow political or religious differences to separate them.
He made the call on Wednesday while addressing hundreds of worshipers who attended Christmas holy mass at the Kiruruma Parish in Karagwe District.
“Tanzania has for a long time been a haven for peace. Tanzanians should maintain the prevailing peace at all costs and should not allow political or religious differences to separate them,” he said.
Mr Bashungwa urged Kagera residents and Tanzanians at large to refrain from animosity based on political party affiliations.
“Our primary focus should be nation-building, not allowing political differences to sow discord to the extent of breeding enmity,” he said.
He also commended the Catholic Church and all other religious institutions for supporting government efforts through social services in various sectors including health, education and water sectors.
Many Tanzanians especially in rural areas have benefited through the church contribution, he noted.

He encouraged the church to invest in the moral formation of the children from the family level to the national level, so as to have a healthy and productive society.
Mr Bashungwa also appealed to residents in the Lake Zone regions including Mwanza, Mara, Simiyu, Kagera and Geita to take advantage and utilise numerous projects being implemented by President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The projects include the mega bridges such as Kigongo Busisi and the construction of Standard Gauge Railway and ships such as MV Mwanza Hapa Kazi Tu. This is a golden opportunity to do business and create job opportunities,” he said.
