GEITA: GEITA district commissioner Cornely Magembe has directed the Ward Education Officers and Ward Executive Officers (WEOs) to oversee the implementation of the agenda of food for all public primary schools in this new academic year.
Mr Magembe made the directives recently at the meeting with all education officers and ward executives in Geita district to evaluate the development of the education sector.
He said an executive officer or education officer who fails to manage implementation of the agenda in his locality will be accountable since it has been established that lack of meals at schools contributes to lower performance.
“Now it is mandatory that each public school in Geita district should have food service. As we approach the harvest season, let’s encourage parents to donate some food for their children at school.”
Mr Magembe directed that the district’s council education officers to submit monthly report on the implementation of the school food agenda for the progressive evaluation.
“Let’s report schools that won’t serve meals to our pupils for further reinforcements. Let the village executives, ward executives as well as village chairmen and ward councilors take this seriously.
“We want all our children to have a meal at school, since once a child eats at school, I am sure we will have improved academic performance in public schools,” Magembe insisted.
In addition, he urged the district council education officers to come up with a strategic plan to provide motivation incentives to head teachers and headmasters from schools with high performances to encourage hard working in public schools.
