Wasira: Nation is safe, turn out to vote

SIMIYU: CCM Vice-Chairman for Mainland Tanzania, Mr Stephen Wasira, has expressed optimism that the country remains peaceful and secure, urging citizens to vote for qualified leaders — particularly CCM’s presidential candidate, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Mr Wasira said false and malicious propaganda circulating on social media is intended to mislead the public, stressing that such claims are baseless and untrue. He made the remarks yesterday while addressing CCM leaders in Bariadi District, Simiyu Region.

“There are individuals in our country who are disturbed by peace and are working with outsiders to destabilise it,” he said.

“Nowadays, social media spreads false and alarming information to make people think the country is in crisis. I am here to tell you that Tanzania is completely safe. With only few days remaining, let us all prepare to go out and vote,” he emphasised.

He urged CCM leaders at all levels to mobilise citizens to turn out in large numbers early in the morning on election day and exercise their constitutional right to choose capable leaders.

“I have come to tell you to go and remind fellow Tanzanians, from the grassroots, to come out in large numbers and vote because the power of this country rests in their hands. This is the time to entrust that power to the people they trust,” he said.

Mr Wasira underscored the importance of electing leaders who possess competence, integrity and commitment to serving the nation faithfully.

“You don’t hand over leadership to anyone who just appears and says, ‘Vote for me,’ when you don’t know them, their record or even their political party — a party that may have existed for only a day. How can you hand over national leadership to people or parties you don’t know? Absolutely not,” he cautioned.

He noted that CCM has consistently reached out to Tanzanians every five years to present its development record and seek fresh mandate to lead.

“Our role, every five years, is to tell Tanzanians what we have accomplished and what we plan to do next. Ours is a party that promises and delivers. That is the difference between CCM and other political parties — we fulfil what we pledge,” he said.

Giving an example, Mr Wasira cited significant progress made in Bariadi District under President Samia’s leadership.

“In just four and a half years, we have built ten new primary schools to accommodate growing enrolment. We have also constructed 81 new classrooms without requiring community contributions. Eight new secondary schools have been built in both urban and rural areas of Bariadi. “In total, 143 new, wellfurnished classrooms have been constructed — all financed through citizens’ taxes, managed effectively under President Samia’s leadership. We promise and we deliver, and that is what sets CCM apart,” he stressed.

Mr Wasira also highlighted key priorities under the CCM Election Manifesto 2025–2030, pledging to address challenges facing residents of Bariadi in various sectors.

He said the new manifesto commits to expanding access to clean and safe water, noting that practical steps have already begun. “We have launched a water project — not just plans on paper. Storage tanks and intake systems are being constructed to pump water from Lake Victoria to Bariadi, Meatu, Kisesa and Maswa.

The entire region will soon have access to piped water from the lake,” he said. He further assured that the persistent power supply challenges will be tackled through the construction of a modern power substation to improve distribution and end frequent outages.
