DODOMA: Vice President Dr Philip Mpango is expected to lead Tanzania’s delegation at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) on Climate Change, scheduled for November 11-22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This year’s conference will be guided by the theme: “Leveraging Carbon Trading Opportunities to Promote Clean Cooking Energy and Alternative Energy Sources.”

At COP29, Tanzania plans to present nine major strategic project proposals, aiming to secure funding to address the ongoing impacts of climate change on the country.

Eng. Cyprian Luhemeja, Permanent Secretary in the Vice President’s Office, revealed the plan during an interview on the program Mazingira Yetu na Tanzania Ijayo, aired on TBC1 on Monday.

During the interview, the PS added that the conference will feature discussions among leaders and experts, aimed at establishing a unified stance on various environmental conservation issues.

Additionally, he noted that Tanzania will have an exhibition booth at the conference, showcasing the country’s initiatives to combat climate change impacts.

He emphasized that fighting climate change is an ongoing effort that requires concerted actions to succeed.

The conference follows COP28, which was held in Dubai, UAE, in 2023, where global leaders gathered to assess progress on climate commitments and reinforce the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming.
