Vice President to attend COP29 in Azerbaijan

TANZANIA: VICE-PRESIDENT, Dr Philip Mpango has left the country for Baku, Azerbaijan to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit (WLCAS) of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) which is set to take place from November 11 to November 22, this year in Baku city.

According to the Vice-President’s statement released yesterday, the VP is expected to address the COP 29 on the government of Tanzania’s position and the efforts that are taken to address effects of climate change.

Moreover, the Vice-President will participate in a side meeting alongside a conference that will discuss the measures to be taken to address climate change, opportunities for clean cooking energy and the carbon business.

Dr Mpango will also take part in a meeting that will discuss how to increase investment in the blue economy in the areas of the Ocean and the Great Lakes, as a measure to address the impacts of climate change.

Furthermore, the Vice President is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders of international organizations participating in the conference to discuss various development opportunities for the benefit of both parties.

Dr Mpango is accompanied by leaders and experts from both Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar.
