USAID funded projects touches lives in Southern Highland
IRINGA: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Technical Adviser Sarah Dastur conducted a joint visit to the USAID Afya Yangu (My Health) Southern and USAID Kizazi Hodari (Brave Generation) Southern Zone projects in Iringa.
This visit involved representatives from USAID Tanzania and Washington.
The visit assessed and supported ongoing Orphans and Vulnerable and Children (OVC) and pediatric HIV/TB activities, showcasing collaborative efforts between the projects to improve health outcomes in the region.
The two projects are both implemented by Deloitte Consulting Limited aiming at improving the health status of the thriving youth, children and communities.
The USAID Technical Adviser Sarah Dastur visited JJ Mungai Primary School within Iringa Municipal, Isakalilo center which cares for children living with HIV and Tosamaganga hospital which has been provided care and counselling for people living with HIV.

During the visit, beneficiaries of the projects commented on the USAID for coming up with the projects that helped Tanzanians especially low income earners saying that the projects has brought back smiles to them.
One of the project beneficiaries, Omary Juma (not his real name) who has been diagnosed with HIV and burdened by financial hardships said the project has really helped to bring back his smile.
My health has well improved through this project comprehensive support which includes health monitoring and education about reproductive health and HIV/Aids, said Juma.
He added, The project has helped me a lot. I learned most things from my community care workers and that has changed my life. I now have hopes with my life and I can now accomplish my dreams. I feel happy and courageous.
Speaking after visiting the beneficiaries, the USAID Technical Adviser Sarah Dastur said Our commitments are aligned with the Government of Tanzania strategic priorities which involves close collaboration with Ministry of Health, Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups and the Presidents Office-Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG).
