Updated education policy set for launch

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to inaugurate the 2014 Education and Training Policy, 2023 Edition, along with the revised curriculum in Dodoma at the end of this month.The new document was endorsed by the cabinet at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre.

Minister for Education,Science and Technology, Prof Adolf Mkenda told journalists yesterday in Dodoma that the historic event will be attended by leaders, stakeholders and citizens at the JKCC in the capital city.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that the official launch of the 2014 Education and Training Policy, 2023 Edition,will take place on the 31st of this month at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre and it will be officiated at by President SamiaSuluhu Hassan,” he said.

“Key national leaders and stakeholders have been invited to participate and about 3,000 people are expected toattend. Tanzanians are encouraged to register and follow the event through media,” he urged.

Prof Mkenda said that the upcoming launch will also feature exhibitions by various institutions showcasing educational initiatives across the country.

He insisted that the event represents a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the education sector.

“The policy review is now complete and we are proud to present the Education and Training Policy 2014, 2023 Edition, which has been officially approved by the President,” he said.

Prof Mkenda further explained that the policy preparation took three years and involved extensive consultation with diverse groups, including students,teachers, citizens and key education stakeholders, all of whom contributed through structured channels.

“Various groups actively participated in providing their feedback. Moreover, the process included learning from best practices in other countries.

Teams involved in the development of this policy visited several nations to observe their approaches and incorporate valuable insights for our improvements,” he added.

He added that the revised policy and curriculum are designed to address the needs of future generations, with a phased implementation approach that ensures positive, measurable impacts each year.

“The policy and curriculum revisions are among the most significant reforms in the education sector in our country, focusing on providing education that meets contemporary needs.The implementation will be phased and each year will bring visible progress.These changes will have a lasting impact across generations,” he said.

Prof Mkenda also explained that the revisions took into account the various concerns raised during discussions with education stakeholders, aiming to strengthen the sector

.”We value the contributions made during discussions on educational reforms. Many important points have been raised and we are closely monitoring them. Nearly all of these concerns are addressed in the new policy and curriculum,” he said.

He said other aspects considered in the policy and curriculum, includes the integration of ICT tools such as Artificial Intelligence, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, as well as education designed to prepare students for global changes.

Prof Mkenda also said that with the new academic year for 2025 set to begin on January 13, all preparations have been finalised, noting that this year, all students joining Form One will use the new curriculum, which includes general education and vocational training
