UNDP picks Dodoma for inclusive development pilot programme

THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has chosen Dodoma City Council as a pilot site for a new initiative aimed at improving gender equity and disability-inclusive service delivery.

During a courtesy visit to Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule, UNDP Tanzania delegation leader and project coordinator Ms Ghati Horombe introduced the innovative project, which seeks to reduce the burden of unpaid care and support services and promote inclusive development planning.

A key feature of the initiative is the Georeferencing Platform, a digital tool that uses mapping technology to pinpoint service gaps and accessibility challenges while supporting evidence-based policymaking.

Commissioner Senyamule applauded the initiative and pledged her full cooperation:

“This project aligns with our vision for inclusive development. We are committed to working closely with UNDP and ensuring full participation of persons with disabilities,” she said.

Ms Horombe encouraged council departments to collaborate with disability-focused organisations to ensure sustainable and long-term outcomes. She explained that the platform will improve data collection for more responsive service provision and planning.

The project contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by addressing systemic barriers faced by women and people with disabilities.
