UDSM student Selengia earns recognition as FIVB instructor
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) and sports stakeholders have complemented coach Alfred Selengia for being selected as an international volleyball and beach volleyball instructor.
Selengia has recently been appointed as an international instructor by the World Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
He becomes the first Tanzanian to become a FIVB International volleyball instructor after also becoming the first men’s FIVB International referee in recent years.
Following the selection, TVF and sports stakeholders have expressed their gratitude due to the important step of a Tanzanian being recognised by the international federation.
TVF General Secretary, Laurance Safari said in his statement: “We wish you (Selengia) all the best and high perfor mance in your new position that you have been entrusted to carry out.”
In addition to TVF, stakeholders have congratulated the national coach for flying the Tanzanian flag high.
Speaking to the ‘Sunday News’ yesterday, Selengia said: “I want to thank God for this important step, it is a great success for me, for our game and the whole nation.
“This appointment opens the door for my fellow Tanzanians to develop themselves especially in education in the sports industry and to put extra effort to achieve their short-term and long-term goals without giving up.
“I will continue to work hard and help my country through various activities, especially coaching, to ensure that we produce skilled coaches who will be capable of rediscovering talents in the country,” he said.
Selengia said it is important to produce highly skilled coaches to discover talents that will become future flag bearers and bring fame to the country in all competitions, from juniors, youths and senior national men and women team’s level.
Selengia is a University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) 3rd year student pursuing a Bachelor of Physical Education and Sport Sciences. He also thanked theFIVB for trusting him and appointing him as a coach for both volleyball and beach volleyball.
The appointment also follows the appointment in a similar position in 2020 from the Confederation of Volleyball Africa CAVB.
In 2022, Selengia was also selected as technical director at the CAVB Zone 5 U18 Beach Volleyball Championship held in Burundi.
