Ubongo launches Season Five of Akili and Me with vibrant animation

DAR ES SALAAM: After reaching over 48 million children across Africa through its educational programs, Akili and Me and Ubongo Kids, the Ubongo organization has officially launched Season Five of Akili and Me, introducing a fresh visual experience and a deeper commitment to emotional development.

Ubongo, recognized as Africa’s leading organization blending education and entertainment, has taken its beloved early childhood program to the next level with a season designed to help young children understand their emotions, build resilience, and cultivate empathy.

Season Five strongly focuses on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), using music, stories, and interactive content to equip children with essential tools to recognize and express their emotions in healthy ways.

“With Season Five, we wanted to go beyond ABCs and 123s by addressing something more foundational—helping children understand and express their emotions,” said Tamala Maerere-Kateka, Senior Strategic Communications Manager at Ubongo.

“We believe that when children learn how to manage their feelings, they build the confidence and resilience needed to thrive in school and in life.”

This new season introduces redesigned characters animated with cutting-edge techniques, offering children and their caregivers a more immersive and engaging viewing experience.

Akili and her friends come to life with vibrant colors and expressive features that enhance the emotional connection between the show and its young audience.

In addition to the TV show, Ubongo has expanded its learning ecosystem by launching Akili and Me Games on the Ubongo Playroom app—an interactive platform featuring educational videos, audio stories, digital books, and games. The platform deepens engagement by offering children hands-on learning through play.

“We know that children learn best through play,” added Maerere-Kateka.

“By integrating interactive elements, we’re giving kids the opportunity to take an active role in their learning journey.”

More than just a TV show, Akili and Me has become a child’s first classroom, a trusted companion, and a gateway to lifelong learning. With the new season, Ubongo continues its mission to make early education more fun, inclusive, and impactful for children in Africa and beyond.

“Big emotions can feel overwhelming for little ones, but when children have the words and tools to express themselves, they build the confidence to face life’s challenges,” Maerere-Kateka concluded.
