TZ exit in elite cricket tourney

TANZANIA: TANZANIA lost to Namibia by seven wickets, leading to their elimination from the All-African cricket tournament in Accra, Ghana.

This was their second consecutive defeat after losing to Zimbabwe by four wickets with four balls to spare. Their only victory was against Nigeria in their opening match.

Unfortunately, the Tanzanian women’s team was also eliminated despite their brave performance. On the final day of the pool stage of the 8-team competition, the local boys batted first and scored 71/9 in their 20 overs.

However, Namibia quickly ended their inning, posting 72/3 in just 2.3 overs at Achimota Senior Secondary School B Field in Accra.

Sunday Kumar Thakor scored only 5 runs from 28 balls, while the experienced batsman Kassim Nassoro came second in the scoring list with 13 runs from 9 balls he faced off.

In the Namibian side, Jean-Pierre Kotze scored 21 runs from 22 balls, as Gerhard Van Rensburg came close with 19 runs from 30 balls.

The win was a consolation for Namibia after their previous loss to Nigeria by three wickets. In other matches, hosts Ghana lost to Kenya by 7 wickets, while Zimbabwe took out Nigeria for 88 in 7.4 overs.

South Africa, who only beat Ghana in the opening match, previously lost to Kenya and on Wednesday to Uganda by two wickets.

Uganda has won three consecutive matches, initially beating Ghana and Kenya in their campaign. As the group stage ends, the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals scheduled for today.

The tournament will culminate on March 23 with the finals, as the finalists compete for championship glory. Before the final match, the third-place playoff will feature the losing semi-finalists competing for a podium finish, intensifying the tournament’s excitement.
