DAR ES SALAAM: Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa has led Tanzanians to receive a Boeing 737- Max 9 aeroplane at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
Gracing the occasion, he said it will be one of the vital roles in the transport in makingTanzania to be economically independent.
The Premier noted that with rapid acquistion of aircrafts, the country will expand the scope of commercial opportunities between Tanzania and others, thus reducing the rate of poverty, and in turn increase the income of individuals and the nation as a whole.
“Reliable transport and transportation services have been the basis for strengthening investment, protecting capital and stimulating communication between traders and other service providers as well as providing employment and increasing the number of tourists and foreign currency in the country,” he pointed out.
He added; “On the other hand, it has been a catalyst in increasing the value chain of agricultural and commercial products. ATCL acquiring both passenger and cargo flights benefits the country a lot, and to be precise, the productivity of farmers, especially those cultivating vegetables, fruits, livestock keepers as well as other Tanzanian traders.”
In a related development, Mr Majaliwa said that the government’s plan to invest in renovating the Julius Nyerere International Airport and turn it into a center for air travels in the East African region. Once the renovation is completed, Terminal I and II will be specially for Tanzania airlines online,” he clarified.
The new Boeing 737- Max 9 has the capacity of carrying 181 passengers.
The plane expands the Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) fleet to 15. They include one Dash 8-Q300, five Dash 8-Q400, four Airbus A220-300, one Boeing 737-Max 9, two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, and one Boeing 767-300F (Cargo Freighter).
