TWPL : Simba Queens in command

DAR ES SALAAM: Simba Queens continued their dominance in the Tanzania Women’s Premier League (TWPL) especially by thrashing Mlandizi Queens 11-0 at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam, yesterday.
The victory helped Simba maintain strong campaign to retain the league title, bringing their points tally to 28 from 10 matches and securing the top spot on the table.
They are followed by JKT Queens in second place with 20 points from 9 outings. In yesterday’s match, Simba Queens were in complete control, dominating from the start.
Jentrix Shikangwa was a standout player, scoring four goals, while her teammate Asha Djafari netted a hat-trick. Aisha Juma added a brace, and both Precious Christopher and Ruth Ingos scored one goal each, bringing the total to 11 goals.
This was the biggest win of the season so far in the league. Meanwhile Yanga Princess, Simba’s rival head coach, Edna Lema, has expressed confidence that her team is still very much in the race for league title, citing ongoing improvements in the squad.
Lema’s remarks came after an impressive 4-1 victory over Bunda Princess at KMC Stadium in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam.
The win lifted Yanga Princess to 15 points, placing them in fourth position in the league, though they remain 13 points behind leaders Simba Queens.
Despite the gap, Lema remains optimistic about her team’s chances.
“We are still in the championship race because the league leaders have 13-point advantage, which is not impossible to overcome. We will keep fighting until the end as we continue to strengthen our squad and build a competitive team. I believe there is still a chance,” said Lema.

The coach also emphasised the importance of consistent performance in team selection, stating that players earn their spots based on their efforts in training, not favouritism.
“A player earns her place based on her performance and commitment during training. We do not select players based on favouritism; it’s about what they show on the pitch,” she added.
Yanga Princess’s dominant win over Bunda Princess showcased their determination to challenge for the league title. With their coach’s clear vision of growth and competitiveness, the team remain hopeful of closing the gap as the season progresses.
Currently, Yanga Princess are settled in the fourth slot of the league despite being tied on 15 points after 9 outings with Mashujaa Queens of Kigoma who are placed third due to goal difference advantage.
In other matches, JKT Queens secured a 4-0 victory over Alliance Girls and Ceasiaa Queens battled to a 1-1 draw against Fountain Gate Princess.
