Two more die as the Chemba road accident’s death toll rises to 11 people

DODOMA: TWO of the 11 people who were receiving treatment following a road accident in Chemba, Dodoma Region, have been pronounced dead, raising the death toll from the accident to 11 people.
The accident occurred after a passenger bus collided with a lorry on the Kondoa-Dodoma highway.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, September 18, 2025, resulting in the immediate deaths of nine people, five men and four women.
Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ernest Ibenzi, confirmed that two more victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
“Yesterday, we initially received nine injured victims. Later, two more were transferred to us after undergoing surgery at Chemba District Hospital. Unfortunately, these are the ones who lost their lives,” Dr. Ibenzi explained.

Among those brought to the hospital was an infant aged below one year, who had been identified by family members. The child’s mother is reportedly among the nine injured and remains unconscious.
Earlier, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Renatha Mzanje, reported that one of the deceased was a woman whose age is estimated to be around 35 years.
Speaking about the child, Mzanje said: “At the time of the accident, the baby was with the mother, who is currently admitted here in critical condition. Relatives have arrived and identified the child, who is now receiving treatment.”
Providing details of the accident on Thursday, September 18, Dodoma Regional Police Commander Gallus Hyera said the collision was caused by negligence on the part of the lorry driver, who veered from the left to the right side of the road, leading to a head-on collision.
