Türkiye mission encourages Tanzanians to grab scholarship opportunities

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Türkiye Embassy in Tanzania has encouraged Tanzanians to apply for the fully funded Turkish Scholarships 2024.

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Tanzania Mehmet Güllüoğlu, made the remarks recently, noting that the scholarships aim to alleviate the financial burdens associated with higher education by covering a comprehensive range of costs.

“The Turkish Embassy in Tanzania encouraged those who wish to pursue undergraduate, master, or doctorate programmes in Türkiye to apply for the scholarship programmes,” he said.

He added that the application procedures commenced on January 10 and will be open until February 20 this year.

Speaking about the relations between Türkiye and Tanzania, Ambassador Güllüoğlu stated that education is a major pillar of the existing strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

“We already have significant bonds coming from the history and culture of our people and these bonds are getting even stronger with growing trade and investment among our countries” he stressed.

Furthermore, the Ambassador pointed out the fact that Turkish TV series such as Osman, Ertugrul and Sultan are very popular in Tanzania and their popularity increases the interest in Turkish language and culture in Tanzania.

He further mentioned the Turkish Maarif Schools that operate in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha and said that the Turkish Maarif Schools provide qualified and reachable education for Tanzanian students.

The Turkish Ambassador further told the ‘Daily News’ that Türkiye scholarship programme has a unique feature that ensures university placement for students in their intended programme of application.

Detailing on the Türkiye scholarship covers university placement, tuition fee, monthly stipend, once-off flight ticket, accommodation, health insurance, and a one-year Turkish language course.

Over 50,000 thousand students have been granted with the scholarship so far all over the world.

Each year, the programme accepts more than 5,000 students. In 2023, Türkiye scholarships received 117,000 applications from 162 countries.

A total of 51 Tanzania students were granted with the scholarship last year, he said.

Turkish Ambassador stressed the importance of receiving more applications as the number of scholarships allocated for Tanzania will increase with the growing numbers of applications.

“Hundreds of thousands of Tanzanian students have already been enrolled in higher education in Türkiye,” he stated.
