MBEYA: SPEAKER of National Assembly Dr Tulia Ackson has asked Director of Mbeya City Council to set strategies for surveying land for investment in the city to encourage investment and boost economic activities in the area.
Speaker Tulia said through surveying the land, it would be easier for investors to allocate suitable areas for businesses and thus plan for future investment.
She said Mbeya is suitable for hotels, universities, conference halls and many other for both economic and social related investments.
The Speaker made the call during the councilors’ meeting held on Wednesday in the city.
“I would like to advise you to focus on surveying land for investment, Mbeya needs conference halls that can accommodates many people. For now, it is difficult to host international conferences here, this is one of the potential areas for investing,” she said.
She added: “We are thankful that the Mbeya Airport has been completed and any type of aircraft can land. The current challenge right now is lack of enough five star hotels in our region, we need to invest in these areas to attract more guests in our beautiful region.”

Dr Ackson commended district and regional administration for managing the implementation of various projects in the education sector. She said education infrastructure have been well implemented.
“We have managed to improve education infrastructure in our schools. In 2023/2024, we managed to build a total of 350 toilets and in this fiscal year, we intend to build a total of 156 toilets,” she noted.
Mbeya City Mayor, Mr Dor Issa said that in the previous financial year, a total of 38.7 bn/- was provided by the government for development projects in the area.
Mbeya City council Director Mr John Nchimbi said the council has allocated 871m/- for the completion of the construction of classrooms, toilets and other infrastructure in the 2024/2025 fiscal year.
