TUCTA and OSHA commend GGML’s technological innovations for workplace safety

The Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) have lauded Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) for its pioneering approach to workplace safety through the integration of cutting-edge technologies.

Encouraging other mining entities to emulate GGML’s exemplary practices, both institutions emphasized the pivotal role of technological advancements in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

During their visit to GGML’s pavilion at the General Tyres site in Arusha, as part of the annual OSHA exhibitions coinciding with World Health and Safety at Work Day, leaders from TUCTA and OSHA reiterated the significance of GGML’s commitment to enhancing occupational health and safety standards within the mining sector.

Dr. Adelhelm Meru, Chairman of the OSHA Advisory Board, commended GGML for its collaboration with the government in implementing initiatives aimed at improving workplace safety.

Highlighting GGML’s utilization of innovative devices such as the ProLaser Speed Gun, Dr. Meru underscored its effectiveness in mitigating accidents caused by speeding vehicles, thus safeguarding the well-being of employees.

Tumaini Nyamhoka, President of TUCTA, echoed Dr. Meru’s sentiments, expressing satisfaction with GGML’s technological endeavors and their positive impact on employee welfare.

Emphasizing the importance of embracing such technologies, Nyamhoka urged industry leaders to visit GGML’s pavilion to witness firsthand the transformative effects of these innovations.

El-cid Walter Marealle, Safety Coordinator at GGML, elaborated on the functionality of the ProLaser Speed Gun, emphasizing its role in enforcing speed limits and minimizing the risk of accidents.

Marealle emphasized that GGML employs a multifaceted approach to safety, incorporating clear signage, road markings, and comprehensive driver training programs to ensure the safe operation of heavy machinery and vehicles.
