‘Tree-planting campaigns transform capital city’

DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule has said that ongoing tree-planting campaigns are transforming the capital into a greener city.

The regional boss made the remarks recently while leading a tree-planting exercise in the city, as part of deliberate efforts under the ongoing campaigns to green Dodoma.

She said various tree-planting initiatives have continued to give Dodoma a greener outlook as she directed the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) Agency to prepare seedlings every year.

“Trees have many benefits. Let us respond to this call. The commitment of President Samia Suluhu Hassan is genuine, which is why Dodoma has fully committed itself to environmental conservation by putting in place clear strategies,” RC added.

RC Senyamule explained that through the campaign, the government aims to make Dodoma green by providing tree seedlings and distributing them free of charge to residents for planting.

The move is intended to encourage a culture of tree planting while also beautifying service delivery environments for citizens.

Speaking after the tree-planting exercise at Dodoma City Hospital in Nala, Ms Senyamule said environmental conservation has been given strong strategies aimed at mobilising citizens to participate in tree-planting and greening campaigns.

She stressed the importance of every resident planting at least three seedlings as part of ongoing efforts to green the city.

Ms Senyamule said tree planting has many benefits, including providing shade and improving the environment.

She mentioned other campaigns that have been implemented, including “My Tree, My Birthday”, “Green Dodoma”, and other environmental conservation initiatives in Dodoma City.

The RC also visited a tree nursery located at MailiMbili, managed by TFS in collaboration with private stakeholders, emphasising the need to increase seedling production.

On his part, Dodoma District Commissioner Jabir Shekimweri said Dodoma City has a responsibility to ensure citizens benefit from forest resources.

He noted the importance of initiatives targeting public schools, health centres and various institutions within residential areas to accelerate environmental restoration and address climate change.
