Tragedy strikes as school bus washed away in Arusha

ARUSHA: Several pupils are feared dead after a Ghati Memorial School bus was washed away on Friday morning while the driver was attempting to cross the flooded Engosengiu gorge located at Sinoni ward in Arusha.

Arusha Urban Member of Parliament, Mr. Mrisho Gambo, stated that earlier reports suggest the driver failed to control the minibus while trying to negotiate his way to the other side of the gorge.

Wananchi have joined forces with authorities in searching for the bus and retrieving the bodies of the pupils.
Arusha is among the regions currently experiencing heavy downpours.

Speaking earlier today, the Chief Government’s spokesperson Mr Mobhare Matinyi said the rains have so far claimed the lives of 52 people, mostly in Morogoro.

Over 1,000 others have been rescued from Rufiji flooding, according to Matinyi.
